As the start of a new tradition for Sunnen’s ongoing blog series, we would like to use this final entry of 2016 to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve had throughout the last 12 months while also taking a sneak peak at some of the exciting things that await at the turn of the New Year. Thank you for joining us as we dive into our year in review…
The year of 2016 served as a pivotal launch pad for a number of Sunnen innovations. Thanks to the hard work of our product development team, we proudly unveiled several unique technological advancements for our loyal customers:
SVL-2115 Automated Lapping Machine
Sunnen's new SVL-2115 automated lapping machine brings increased productivity and part consistency to what is traditionally a manual process. Based on the same machine platform as the popular SV-2100 honing system, the SVL-2115 provides single setup processing of hydraulic valves, sleeves, fuel system components and other parts that are prone to distortion when honed. The walkaway system uses an index table to automatically lap and air gage bores throughout the cycle. Gage readings are fed back to the control and the cycle is repeated until the parts are within spec. — Sunnen’s Latest Bore Finishing Machine Laps the Field on Productivity
SH-6000 KROSSGRINDING® Machine
Sunnen’s new SH-6000 builds on the 25-year heritage of the successful high precision CGM and KGM series machines. In the case of the SH-6000, all aspects of the CGM and KGM models have been analyzed for improvement. The result is a machine engineered to improve operator productivity and increase reliability. Both high speed and high torque models of the SH-6000 are suited for quick changeover for medium-to-high volume production with a higher level of control and new technology throughout. — SH-6000: Next Generation KROSSGRINDING® Machine
SHA-4000 Automated Horizontal Honing Machine
The SHA-4000 is a premium system designed for the high-volume processing of gears, turbocharger bushings, cartridge valve components and pistol barrels and more. The goal with building this product was to provide a robust, high-production system that requires minimal operator attention, thus optimizing productivity. — SHA-4000 Automated Power Stroked Honing System
SVF-Series Coolant Filtration Systems
Although this particular innovation is considered to be more of a machine accessory than a machine itself, it is still worth noting that Sunnen’s new SVF-Series Coolant filtration systems are the build-to-suit solutions for your needs. Our 55- and 110-gallon systems are both crafted with higher levels of filtration and chilling available to meet process requirements in abrasive machining. — New SVF Series Grit Guard® Coolant Filter is Modular Solution for Abrasive Machining
There’s not much Sunnen loves more than taking our products on the road and showing them to the people that make our work worthwhile. In 2016, we attended 27 events all across the globe, including the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS)
and Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Show
At the IMTS Show, Sunnen unveiled two notable innovations for honing technology: a software package to make our honing machines MTConnect
compliant which allows system efficiency and utilization to be monitored remotely; and the new FTH Floating Tool Holder, which allows Sunnen honing tools to be used in CNC machining centers.
During the PRI Show, our two-decades-old tradition continued as we selected the winner of the 26th annual Sunnen Engine Charity Sweepstakes 2016
, in support of the not-for-profit, Victory Junction
. This year, Scott Harr
of Dominick Race Car Fabrication from Pittsburgh, PA won a custom GM LSX 454 big block racing engine built by Nick Ferri of Patterson Elite Performance
This year also ushered in the first of its kind: a contest that celebrated the power and precision of our treasured industrial community. With your help, we received more than 200 #SunnenSelfie
submissions; however, only one could earn the grand prize: an official Sunnen jacket, Sunnen cap and a $25 Amazon gift card. Our Facebook and Twitter followers voted, and Eric Dickemper
was the clear winner.
Looking Ahead to 2017
While we cannot yet reveal the entirety of everything that is to come in 2017, we can take a brief step into what January will bring.
Join us at the SHOT Show
– booth S2109 on the fifth level of the Palazzo Ballroom in Las Vegas, Nevada – on Monday the 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During this time, Sunnen representatives will be available to discuss honing technology for gun barrels, including the Sunnen HTE 1600W Tube Hone
